Curry Family Medical Automated Pharmacy

Curry Family Medical Automated Pharmacy

The Automated Pharmacy System at Curry Family Medical in Port Orford is so unique that the State of Oregon had to enact special legislation before allowing Shindler’s and the Curry Health District to establish the much needed service.

Opened in the spring of 2005, the system offers many patients the option of obtaining prescription medication locally, without the expense and inconvenience of traveling to pharmacies out of town.

Open weekdays at 9am, the Automated Pharmacy System makes it easy to fill prescriptions in north Curry County.  For further information, please phone the friendly pharmacy techs at Shindler's Automated Pharmacy System in Curry Family Medical:  541/332-2304.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How can I use the automated pharmacy?
A:  Fax or hand-deliver your prescription to either Curry Family Medical in Port Orford or Shindler’s Pharmacy in Bandon. Another option? Your health provider can phone in your prescription to the pharmacist at Shindler’s in Bandon.

Q:  Can I get refills at the automated pharmacy?
A:  The automated pharmacy stores more than 90 of the most commonly used medications. If your refill is for one of those medications, then yes, you can get your refill in Port Orford.

Q:  Can I get my prescription at the automated pharmacy if it is filled elsewhere?
A:  No. Unfortunately, state regulation does not allow us to dispense medications from prescriptions filled at another site.

Q:  Are controlled substances included in the Port Orford system?
A:  Currently, the federal government does not allow us to store controlled substances. We are hoping this will change in the near future.

Q:  Do I have to be a patient at Curry Family Medical to use the pharmacy services?
A:  No. You can go to any health provider, and still fill your prescriptions in the Port Orford pharmacy system, as long as the system contains the medication.

Q:  What about insurance coverage?
A:  Shindler’s accepts many insurance carriers, but not all. To find out if yours is accepted, phone Shindler’s in Bandon at 1-877-347-3707.

Q:  Can I request that the automated system carry my medication?
A:  Yes. If there are enough requests for a certain medication, the medication might be placed in the automated system.

Q:  Can my health provider change my medication to one that is in the automated system
A:  Yes. Take a copy of the pharmacy system’s formulary to your provider and ask if there is an alternative to your current medication. If so, your provider may be willing to prescribe that medication for you.

Q:  Do the automated pharmacy system prescriptions cost more?
A:  The price is the same as at Shindler’s in Bandon. But if you get a medication from the Port Orford system that is half strength, and you take two tablets to equal your current dose, then the cost would be higher. Phone to inquire at 1-877-347-3707.
